About this programme
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — STEM — are the disciplines that will shape the twenty-first century. Yet for most children in northern Ghana, these subjects remain abstract concepts taught from textbooks, disconnected from the hands-on experimentation and creative problem-solving that make them come alive. The STEM and Robotics Education Programme changes that by putting real technology into students' hands.
The programme introduces learners to robotics, coding, engineering, and scientific innovation through a structured, progressive curriculum. Students begin with foundational concepts — what is an algorithm, how do machines sense and respond to their environment — and advance to building and programming simple robots, designing solutions to local challenges, and participating in robotics competitions. Every session is hands-on, with students working in teams to design, build, test, and iterate.
The programme is delivered through school-based STEM clubs and community innovation hubs, staffed by trained facilitators who guide students through the curriculum while encouraging creativity and independent problem-solving. Beyond the technical skills, students develop teamwork, persistence, and the confidence to tackle complex challenges — competencies that serve them well in any future career, whether or not they ultimately pursue a STEM field.
Our approach
Progressive Curriculum
A structured learning pathway from foundational concepts to advanced robotics and coding, designed to be accessible to students with no prior technology exposure while challenging those ready for more complex work.
Hands-On Building
Students learn by doing — assembling circuits, writing code, building robots, and testing their creations in real time, with every session centred on active experimentation.
STEM Clubs and Hubs
Ongoing school-based clubs and community innovation hubs where students meet regularly to learn, build, and collaborate under the guidance of trained facilitators.
Who it serves
Youth aged ten to twenty — The programme is designed for upper primary through senior high school students, with content and complexity adapted for different age groups. The programme actively works to reach girls and young women, who are significantly underrepresented in STEM fields in Ghana and globally.
The future is built by those who understand it
Across Africa, the fastest-growing jobs require STEM skills. Yet in northern Ghana, most students complete their education with no exposure to coding, robotics, or engineering — putting them at a structural disadvantage in the regional and global economy. This programme opens the door to STEM careers for students who would otherwise never encounter them, building a pipeline of local talent prepared to solve the challenges of tomorrow.
